Happy freaking Valentine's Day!

I have to give myself credit that, despite the fact that most of the food native to this country I find disgusting (Mince meat, ginger cookies, all of their crackers), there have been very few things that I haven't tried.  That has been my excuse and reasoning for making my co-workers try such American delights as twinkies, triscuts, and yes, even cheese whiz (they were not impressed).  I have found my new favorite thing about England though: Fanta Zero.  Its as close to Diet Sunkist as I think I will get.  At the very least its sold in a lot more stores.  I was really excited about that this morning.  In the same line of thinking, last Sunday I went to my first Sunday roast.  In Ireland, they do an Irish breakfast, in America we do bloody marys and mimosas combined with a good burger (or at least that's how I always did brunch), and here they do Sunday roast.  Traditionally its beef roast, but you can also get pork, lamb, or half a chicken.  You get mashed potatoes, veggies, roasted potatoes, yorkshire pudding (not pudding but kind of list a pastry) all COVERED in gravy.  Top it off with a few pints and you've got yourself a Sunday roast.  It was probably one of the best meals I've had since I moved here.

At brunch my friends and I sat at a table (because that's what you do here.  You're in a pub and if you see a seat you take it) with this British girl Lisa who LOVED our accents.  She actually said that too...she said she loved them.  I wondered why I had never heard that from anyone else here before, but then I remembered its because my accent isn't "cute"...its jersey.  We don't say things to sound cute, we say things to make a point.  And then we pump our fists to reinforce the message.

Anyway, we end up talking to her all afternoon and we all decided that since this Saturday is Valentine's Day we need to do the good single girl thing and get all dolled up, drink champagne, and celebrate our fabulousness.  Apparently single British girls have the same tradition, which is good to hear!  So this weekend we are going to Heather's for some food and drinks and then heading to a bar/club.  I'm pretty excited about it!  I'm also excited that I figured out how to add pictures to my blog.  Yes, I know its really simple, but so am I so don't judge!

Accent, what accent? I never noticed any accent!!!

One English food you may want to avoid is the Crunchy Frog Surprise described by Monty Python as "an entire frog that has been coated with chocolate. According to the sketch, "We use only the finest baby frogs, dew-picked and flown from Iraq, cleansed in finest-quality spring water, lightly killed, and then sealed in a succulent Swiss quintuple smooth treble cream milk chocolate envelope and lovingly frosted with glucose." Even Cheese Whiz couldn't help this.
