That's heavy

This week I went to my first concert in London.  The South African and I went to see Counting Crows at Wembly.  They were awesome.  Well, first there were two opening acts: Blind Pilot and The Hold Steady.  They were both American, and The Hold Steady are from Brooklyn.  If you have the chance I would highly recommend checking them both out.  Anyway, Counting Crows went on as well and they were awesome.  It was a lot of fun, and a bit of an escape from London since the only voices I heard were Americans.  Some of the songs they sang were really deep, or as my friend Mel I work with says, heavy.  I thought it was really funny the first time I heard her say it because all I could think of was Doc saying "Is there something wrong with the gravitational pull in your time?"

Mel is trying to teach me how to speak "London street".  It involves a lot of things like "innit" and "bloody" and "cooooold".  She also says "taking the mic" a lot (short for taking the mickey).  The first time I heard her say that I was really confused.  She told me it was the same as "taking the piss".  She was surprised that we don't say that in America.  "Well, what do you say instead?" she asked.  I said "I don't know, something like, 'I'm just f*cking with you' or something."  "Well, that's a bit aggressive don't you think?"  I said, hmm yeah I guess it is.

Oh also, I decided that if I was going to write an autobiography it would be called "Mind the Gap" because it talks about my life between childhood and being an adult.  Pretty profound huh?

Tonight I have a Eurovision party and then tomorrow I'm meeting up with L O'D who is in London with her parents!

I understand the need to hear English spoken like it is at home. I feel the same way when we spend a week in South Carolina!
