Happy Thanksgiving!! Even though I'm at work, I've decided to treat this day as if I was home, aka I'm the least productive person ever. I figured I should eat turkey today, so I've got a turkey and stuffing sandwich from Pret. It's no where near as good as the feast we'll be having tomorrow is to be!! More on that later...
First, I would like to discuss the new guy in my office. He is English, and a sweetheart; however, he's also one of those people who you want to reach into their mouth and pull out the words because he is a bit of a slow talker. When he first started I overheard him say that he's looking forward to working with Americans (our parent company) because he's interested in the American sense of humor.
Oh my.
So on one of his first days, he was in the office quite early, as was I. He asked if I could help him set up the conference room screen. I went in there, showed him how it works and said "ok, you're good to go." He then said to me:
NG: Where are you from originally?
me: New Jersey.
NG: Oh...soo are you Italian? Sicilian?...
me: what? no, I'm American.
NG: no, I mean. That is to say, where is your family from...originally?
me: ohh...yeah, no, I'm Irish.
Thank you Jersey Shore and the Sopranos. Now everyone in NJ has Italian heritage.
Ok, now to Thanksgiving. Typically Allison and Chris host Thanksgiving, but because they have a new flat and baby, it's not the easiest thing for them to do. V and I decided that we should step up to the plate. V has one of the bigger flats of all our friends, and I've got the knowledge of what you should have at Thanksgiving. Between the two of us, we are unstoppable! Or so we hope. I have a 20lb turkey at my house, as well as a mix of sides, toppings, pie mixes, pie tins, paper products, etc to carry over to V's house tonight. She lives about an hour fifteen away from me on the train. I am staying at her place tonight and Friday night, meaning I also have clothes to bring. Tonight she is going to come to my house and help me transport all of this to her place. This will be entertaining, to say the least. I promise to document the process.
Once we get everything to her place, we will rest. Tomorrow morning, she's headed to work and I'm hitting the kitchen. At lunch time, she'll come home and we'll finish prepping everything (and cook the ham that was bought in a panic that we wouldn't have enough food). Saturday morning, we'll get the bird in the oven, and hope everything else falls into place! We have about 19 people (and two babies) total coming over. I'm feeling pretty good about everything. At the end of the day, there are only about 5 Americans coming, so even if we mess up, only 5 people (myself included) will know.
