Newquey

I'm the worst blogging person EVER. Ok let's go back to August 5th.  The first bank holiday of August, and the day V, Am, Cam and I went to Newquey.

For those of you who are geographically challenged, Newquey is in Cornwell.  Cornwell is the left hand, bottom corner of Great Britain.  We drove down in V's car.  On the way down, V decided that we should stop at Stone Henge (not stone hedge as I previously thought) since Am and I had never seen it.  So we stopped half way down and visit it.  It was weird.  I mean, lots of big rocks, but I think it was more the mystery of it all, and how old it was.  So that was cool.  I can check that off my list of the world's wonders!

We got to Newquey and went right to V's parents house.  We all said hi, had some tea, and then decided to head to the seaside to get some fish and chips and have a drink.  We went into the fish and chip shop (or "chippy" as they are more commonly called).  Everyone laughed when the American paid extra for more ketchup.  We took the food down to the seaside and sat on a bench.  It started to spit a bit.

Cam: hey, you guys, do you want to go sit under that overhang?
Am and V: (continue eating)
Kat: Hey...guys...it's um...it's starting to rain
 Am and V: (continue eating)
Cam: guys?
Kat: soo...we're just going to keep eating here?  in the rain?
Am and V: (continue eating)
Cam: ok.  so we'll just keep eating.

When we finished our food, Am and V just look at each other and said, I can't believe they think it's raining.  Crazy americans.

So we walked up to a pub for a drink.  Holy crapola were they cheap.  It was great.

The next day, we went to st. something or other for a day trip.  It was a cute little like, harbor town.  It was definitely a tourist town, cute little shops, cute restaurants, etc.  We got there and got a "cornish pasty".  Basically it's a calzone, but instead of pizza stuff, there is beef or chicken and potatoes inside.  We sat on a bench eating that, and then walked around.  We found these people who were giving speed boat rides, and thought that looked like a lot of fun.  For like £5 they put 10 or so of you in speed boat and you cruise all around the coast.  Am was terrified.  V and I sat in the back and tried to see how long we could go without holding on, and what would happen if we jumped up right before a big bump...you know....all those mature kinds of activities.  We looked totally hot:

Then we did a bit of shopping and stopped for some "creamed tea".  This isn't one thing, it's like the name of a meal.  Basically you get a scone served with reallly whipped butter (almost like cream cheese) and jam, and then you get tea also.  It was not good.  Am ate about three ramekins of the cream.  V took down about two.  Cam and I just nibbled a bit.  Clearly this is not an american snack.

On the way back we stopped at a bar that was on this big cliff overlooking water of some kind.  It was awesome.

That night we headed out and drank more insanely cheap drinks.

The next day was the board masters surf tournament.  It was really fun to watch the surfers, there were beer tents, it was really fun!  The sun eventually came out as well, so we just sat outside a bar, had several beers and ciders.  It was awesome.  We then went back to V's parents house, showered, changed, and went out on the town.  I can only describe it as an english version of the jersey shore.  It was a TON of fun.

The next morning...not so fun.  But it was sunny and 65!!  So we all rallied, sat outside, soaked up the sun, and let V's dad cook us food and wait on us hand and foot.

Overall....amazinggg TRIP!!

I love it. "We had tea"..."went to the chippy"..."had a creamed tea" - you were in England, alright!

I can't get past the "stone hedge" part of this post. Bad, bad American!
