I got an email from Desperately Seeking Searsucker yesterday asking if I got today off. “you are American. Bob gets off work for Jewish holidays. Being American is kinda like a religion. Right? You should so get it off." I replied and said definitely because I am clearly more American than Bob is Jewish. My CEO didn't buy that argument.
My co-workers don't really get it though. They laughed at me when I watching an "America's Got Talent" clip of these three kids who were singing God Bless America. Their mom had gotten in a head on collision with a drunk driver and was put in a coma for a few months. That's when the three kids (ages 16,12, and 9 or something like that) started singing. I started tearing up during the song and they were all amazed that I was so touched. I said, well yes, I am American. Not alll Americans cry during the national anthem, but I do get a little teary, especially when it involves something like Michael Phelps or that scene in Miracle, just pride in your country. They definitely DO NOT have that here! Its kind of sad. I'm not sure why we do and they don't. Its funny. Its not funny when they start laughing at you for pride in your country. But then I just tell them they don't have to come, we don't want them. HA! ZING!
So obivously I'm at work today, and then tomorrow I'm headed to a good old fashion American BBQ at Hillary's house. I'm going to try and get fireworks at this place in Acton but it looks a little ghetto so I'm not sure how that will work out. Hope for the best though! I really was wishing I had a big obnoxious tee shirt with an American flag that I could belt and head out in, but I don't think I'll be able to find one here. I wish they had an Old Navy. That would definitely be the place to hit.
Oh also, Andy Roddick is playing Andy Murray (Brit) in Wimbleton today and I thought it would great if Roddick won. A big old ha ha to England the day before we celebrate our independence from them with fireworks and excessive awesomeness.
I definitely wish I was in DC this weekend. The fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays (along with Halloween and my birthday), and in DC its always especially fun. Head to a BBQ and then walk out into the street or to the top of a building and look up. Done and done! It should be interesting to see how it goes this weekend. I think since its a Saturday it could be really awesome. Can't wait to report back! Until then have an AWESOME fourth of July!!

I may have had an experience with an aforementioned Andy. remind me to tell you when drunk
Hope your 4th went well! I finally finished the book. I have also heard that the ending is different in the movie and that it is a matter of life or death... I don't know how they could change it without losing something so I'm not sure if I'll watch the movie!
I would like to state that the reason people in England do not have such pride in their country is b/c it's so freakin old no one can remember how it became a country to begin with.
America, on the other hand, only recently spilled blood to win our freedom. We can still trace back to our ancestors who fought for that freedom.
This is one time when it pays to be a young country. We will kill you if you try to mess with us, and our freedom.
Happy Belated 4th of July! Hope you got some :)
Hi! I'm just putting the word out that I am moving to D.C. and any words of wisdom from some d.c. experts are welcomed!!! Hope all is well!
Thanks so much for the input! Any other areas you think I should check out?
